The report published on the 10th of june on Eurostat website analyzes recent data on air transport in the European Union, both of passengers and of freight and mail. It presents data on air passengers transported, showing a marked impact of the economic crisis.

 In 2008, 798 million passengers were transported by air to, from or within the European Union (EU). Although this represents a small annual growth of 0.6% compared to 2007, the effect of the economic crisis on the air transport industry of the EU became apparent during the course of the year.

Indeed, while in the first two quarters of 2008, a comparison of air passengers with 2007 indicated a growth of 4.4%, by the last quarter, the data showed a fall of 5.6%. This brings to an end an uninterrupted period of six years of sustained growth in the air transport industry.

 At airport level, London Heathrow and Frankfurt/Main continued to be the largest airports in the EU in terms of passengers carried and freight and mail loaded/unloaded respectively.

The report provides further information and graphics  which concern the top 30 airports and theyr variation in the period considered, the country to country flows, and the extra-Eu principal destinations

Rapporto Eurostat sul trasporto Aereo 2007-2008

Il rapporto Eurostat, pubblicato il 10 giugno,analizza i dati più recenti relativi al trasporto aereo in Europa, considerando sia i passeggeri che merci e posta. Ci vengono presentati dati sul trasporto passeggeri che mostrano un marcato impatto della crisi economica. Nel 2008,  vi sono stati 798 milioni di passeggeri che hanno viaggiato in Europa o partendo dall'Europa. Sebbene la crescita annuale pari allo 0,6 %  sia debole se comparata al 2007, l'effetto della crisi economica sull'industria del trasporto aereo europeo si è resa manifesta solo nel corso dell'anno.

Mentre nei primi due trimestri del 2008, comparati al 2007, si indicava una crescita del 4,4 %, a partire dall'ultimo trimestri invece, si è verificato un calo del 5,6%. Ciò ha messo fine ad un periodo di sei anni di crescita sostenuta e ininterrotta del trasporto aereo.

A livello aeroportuale Heatrow e Frankfurt MAin, mantengono la posizione dominante di aeroporti maggiori in termini di passeggeri e di merci e posta trasportati

Il rapportp fornisce inoltre informazioni e dati grafici che concernono i 30 maggiori aeroporti europei e le loro variazioni nel periodo considerato, i flussi da paese a paese e le principali destinazioni extraeuropee
